Custodial FTE Calculation Systems of the Future
Wouldn’t be a wonderful world if housekeeping or custodial directors could instantly provide Full Time Employee (FTE) data for any group of spaces no matter which level, building, zone or region or campus with minimal maintenance? The FTE variable has plagued universities for decades and we still continue to use spreadsheets, consultants or in some cases software. Has anyone considered how simple the process could be if we utilized our Computer Automated Facility Management (CAFM) systems? These systems have been around for decades and are capable of remarkable abilities. They primarily store the building and space data with gross square feet (GSF). But they have the capacity to manage almost every institutional need in space management, building operations, engineering, utilities, and assets, class scheduling, egress safety and a host of other services.
How difficult would it be to create a universal link or module extension that connects to any CAFM system? Actually, it is easier than you might think. Sure their will have to be some administrative maintenance but it will be a lot easier and faster than spreadsheets. Plus by attaching to present CAFM systems the cost would be relatively inexpensive in the long run. I have been working on a solution for over eight years and I am seeking other persons in the APPA organization to discuss the issues in a collaborative and productive manner.
